Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Pediatric Gastroenterology specialist to join our team at SIU HealthCare. As an academic Pediatric Gastroenterologist, you will play a vital role in the education and training of medical students, residents, and allied health professionals.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in the development and implementation of undergraduate curricula in Pediatric Gastroenterology
• Participate directly in Pediatric Gastroenterology residency training
• Participate in continuing education programs in Pediatric Gastroenterology for clinical faculty and practicing physicians
• Provide a role model for students and residents as a teacher and practicing Pediatric Gastroenterologist
• Serve as a mentor for Pediatric Clerkship students
• Present at conferences for the Department of Pediatrics, such as Grand Rounds, Resident and Clerkship Seminars
• Regularly attend departmental meetings and educational seminars

Service
• Demonstrate commitment to the mission and behavioral standards of SIU School of Medicine
• Provide excellent service to internal and external customers through collaboration and partnership
• Set an example to future practitioners of highly-skilled and conscientious practice of Pediatric Gastroenterology
• Assist in the coordination of multiple disciplinary clinics for Pediatric Gastroenterology patients
• Maintain a clinical practice in Pediatric Gastroenterology to enhance clinical proficiency
• Participate in peer review for assessing clinical practice skills for faculty within the Division
• Represent the Division in regional, state, and national matters pertaining to Pediatric Gastroenterology
• Attend national meetings and symposia in Pediatric Gastroenterology and related fields
• Serve on committees in national, regional, and state societies pertaining to Pediatric Gastroenterology

Administration
• Assist the Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology in coordinating and directing the residency program
• Assist in the assessment of manpower and education needs in Pediatric Gastroenterology in central and southern Illinois

Research
• Engage in research and scholarly activity to enhance the academic environment of the Division
• Provide a role model for students and residents as an investigator
• Seek funding mechanisms to support research
• Participate in quality assurance programs as assigned by the Division

Qualifications
• MD or equivalent degree
• Board eligible in Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics
• Board eligible in pediatric gastroenterology
• Eligible for licensure in the State of Illinois
• Successful completion of an approved residency program
• Possess a strong commitment to clinical and educational excellence
• Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations

Desirable Qualifications
• Board Certified in Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics
• Board Certified in Pediatric Gastroenterology by the American Board of Pediatrics
