Position Overview:

The role involves providing expert forensic consulting services that require a deep understanding of structural engineering principles for a diverse clientele, including insurance companies, legal firms, and industrial clients. The consultant will investigate and ascertain the causes and origins of structural failures, building envelope issues, and construction defects, while also evaluating the extent of damage and potential repair solutions. Comprehensive oral and written reports of findings will be prepared, and expert testimony may be required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough investigations and analyses of residential, commercial, and industrial properties to resolve claims and legal disputes.
  • Execute forensic assignments within the structural engineering domain, adhering to a predefined scope of work and budget agreed upon with the client.
  • Perform field investigations to identify the causes and origins of construction defects or structural failures, including gathering photographic evidence, conducting site assessments, and reviewing relevant documentation.
  • Prepare detailed oral and written reports outlining the causes of failures, extent of damage, and recommended remediation strategies, along with providing expert opinions in litigation contexts.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, coordinating with other experts and support staff to ensure timely delivery of client reports.
  • Ensure adherence to established procedures while maintaining safety and due diligence throughout project execution.
  • Develop and sustain beneficial relationships with clients.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required in the state of employment or the ability to obtain it promptly.
  • 2-10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in Project Management and/or Field Investigations is preferred.
  • Additional licenses or certifications may be necessary based on location.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • High level of analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with clients at all levels.
  • Proficient in various computer software applications, including Microsoft Office and engineering design software.
  • Capable of interpreting scientific and technical reports, financial documents, and legal papers.
  • Skilled in drafting scopes of work, budget estimates, schedules, and technical reports.
  • Adept at responding to inquiries from clients and presenting information to diverse audiences.
Physical Requirements and Travel:

Physical Demands: The position involves a mix of office work and field investigations at various sites. The employee may need to stand, walk on sloped surfaces, climb ladders, and navigate confined spaces. The ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds is required.

Travel Requirements: This role may necessitate up to 50% local/regional travel, with minimal overnight travel expected.
