At Ports America, the Infrastructure Systems Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing support of the organization's essential systems infrastructure. This role will involve working extensively with both Windows and Linux operating systems across various environments, configuring web servers, database servers, and managing the enterprise storage framework. Additionally, the Engineer will oversee and maintain multiple hypervisor platforms, including VMWare and Nutanix Acropolis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct advanced troubleshooting for operational challenges involving Microsoft technologies such as O365, SCCM, SQL Server, Exchange, Microsoft Clustering, Windows DNS/DHCP, Active Directory / GPO's, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Design, implement, and manage critical infrastructure to ensure high availability in a 24/7 operational environment.
- Provide hands-on support for Windows desktop and server operating system standards, including management, deployment, data integrity, and recovery processes.
- Investigate, troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve issues within existing server environments.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for server environments.
- Review security bulletins from vendors and plan regular maintenance windows while ensuring a stable production environment.
- Engineer and manage corporate data storage subsystems, including SAN, NAS, SMB, and NFS.
- Administer enterprise infrastructure monitoring systems such as SolarWinds Orion, PRTG, and Splunk.
- Investigate and recommend best practice design methodologies.
- Travel Requirements: Up to 20%.
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Equivalent combinations of experience and education will be considered.
- Experience in designing and maintaining medium to large-scale server architectures.
- 5+ years of experience with highly available architectures in a large, geographically diverse setting.
- 2+ years of experience at the engineer level in Windows and/or Unix/Linux environments.
- 7+ years of professional IT experience.
- Must obtain and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification) Card issued by the Department of Homeland Security.
- Understanding of enterprise networking concepts (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP).
- General knowledge of cloud platforms such as Amazon AWS and Microsoft Azure.
- Advanced understanding of server virtualization technologies, including 3-tier and hyper-converged systems (VMware, Nutanix).
- Intermediate knowledge of Barracuda load balancers.
- Deep understanding of backup tools and disaster recovery strategies.
- Proven ability to apply technological solutions to business challenges and manage large, complex projects.
- In-depth troubleshooting skills across multiple IT disciplines (Server, Database, Security, etc.).
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
