About the Role

The City of Moab - Utah is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Civil Engineer Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our engineering department, you will play a crucial role in supporting the design, planning, and implementation of various infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the design and preparation of plans, specifications, and cost estimates for capital improvement projects, including streets, stormwater facilities, water & sewer line extensions, parks, and recreation facilities.
  • Participate in construction inspection of City projects to ensure compliance with applicable specifications, codes, standards, etc.
  • Participate in site inspections, field surveys, and data collection for City projects.
  • Assist in reviews of construction plans prepared by private engineers.
  • Support the City Engineer in Floodplain Management.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with major coursework in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience in the engineering field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of modern principles, practices, methods, materials, and techniques of civil engineering as applied to private development projects and public works, utilities, and construction projects.
  • Considerable knowledge of applicable laws and codes relevant to civil engineering.
  • Ability to use a full range of computer programs, equipment, and materials as applied to civil engineering, including word processing and spreadsheet applications as well as GIS and CAD-based software programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, and agencies, and the public.
Working Environment

Employees work under typical office conditions, and the noise level is usually quiet. Talking, hearing, and seeing are necessary for performing most essential functions. Common eye, hand, and finger dexterity is required for most essential functions.
