Job Summary

This position serves as a Civil Engineering Technician for the Canyon Country District. The successful candidate will perform a broad range of technical engineering functions in support of project construction and maintenance under the supervision of a professional Engineer.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performs project design and survey of roads.
  • Performs broad inspection functions.
  • Prepares and administers engineering construction, supply and service contacts.
  • Manages and maintains asset management database, including data entry and site visits to assets.
  • Performs materials tests.
  • Suggests solutions for and monitors construction or repair of standard facilities or features and ensures projects meet contract standards.
  • Prepares, interprets and presents drawings, plans and specifications.
  • Uses and assembles various instruments, gauges and devices.

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-08 level you must meet the following:

  • Specialized Experience: Applicants must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 level comparable in difficulty and complexity to perform the duties of an Engineering Technician.
  • OR Education: To qualify based on education you must have a Master's or equivalent degree, or two (2) full years (36 semester hours) of graduate-level education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree in a related field of study.
  • OR Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education.

To qualify at the GS-09 level you must meet the following:

  • Specialized Experience: Applicants must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 level comparable in difficulty and complexity to perform the duties of an Engineering Technician.
  • OR Education: To qualify based on education you must have a Master's or equivalent degree, or two (2) full years (36 semester hours) of graduate-level education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree in a related field of study.
  • OR Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education.
Physical Demands

The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, rocky, or slippery surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, climbing, or similar activities; recurring lifting of light to moderately heavy items weighing less than 50 pounds (i.e., 23 kilograms), such as testing or measuring equipment; and/or regular visits to construction, industrial, marine, or other outdoor sites.

Work Environment

Work involves regular and recurring exposure to moderate risks and discomforts, such as the following: dust, strong odors, or fumes from fuels, chemicals, or engine exhaust; high levels of noise and vibration, dust, grease, electrical hazards, uncovered moving parts of machinery, moving machinery; or outdoor conditions involving moderate exposure to rain, cold/hot weather, icy streams, and rivers.

Education
