Overview

This role is part of the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), which provides a reimbursement opportunity for student loan payments.

Applicants must fulfill specific eligibility criteria as per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within the designated timeframe.

Approval, award amounts (up to $200,000), and eligibility duration (ranging from one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office following a thorough review of the EDRP application.

Job Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse will execute clinical responsibilities as directed by the Associate Director for Patient Care Services through various supervisory roles.

The RN will exhibit leadership in delivering nursing care and serve as a role model when appointed as team leader or charge nurse under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or designee.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Timely and accurate implementation of nursing orders for patients with complex care needs.
  • Execution of physician's orders promptly, addressing any barriers to completion.
  • Engagement of patients and families in setting realistic health education and treatment goals.
  • Documentation of nursing processes, including patient education and discharge planning.
  • Assessment and documentation of patient responses to interventions, adjusting care plans as necessary.
  • Continuous evaluation of patient needs and care priorities.
  • Guidance and direction to other care providers.
  • Participation in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Self-assessment of performance and identification of professional development needs.
  • Collaboration with other healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care.

Compensation and Benefits

The position offers a competitive salary with regular increases and potential performance awards.

Employees receive 50 days of paid time off annually, which includes 26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, and 11 paid federal holidays.

Retirement benefits include a traditional federal pension and a federal 401K with contributions from the VA.

Health, vision, dental, life, and long-term care insurance options are available, many of which can extend into retirement.


Qualifications

Applicants must be U.S. citizens and possess a full, unrestricted nursing license from any U.S. state or territory.

Preferred experience includes 1-2 years in various nursing specialties such as Medical Surgical, Oncology, ICU, and Mental Health.


Physical Requirements

This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, and manual dexterity.

Physical demands include prolonged periods of walking, standing, and the ability to lift and transfer patients.

Exposure to potentially infectious materials and the need for protective clothing may be required.
