Position Overview

This role operates within a collaborative framework that includes residents, fellows, attending physicians, and staff dedicated to the care of patients in hospital medicine across various units. The position functions under the guidance of the Medical Director or an authorized physician, collaborating closely with Patient Care Coordinators, nursing staff, and discharge planners to ensure comprehensive medical and nursing care. Responsibilities encompass primary and urgent medical management, emergency stabilization of critically ill patients, and educational roles for residents, medical students, and staff.

Educational Requirements

  • Mandatory - Master's degree in Nursing

Experience

  • Mandatory - None
  • Preferred - Three years of relevant experience

Licensure and Certifications

  • Mandatory - Valid Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license in the state of practice
  • Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner or Adult/Geriatric Nurse Practitioner from ANCC or AANPCP
  • Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner from ANCC or AANPCP
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications from the American Heart Association
  • Eligibility for Prescriptive Authority as defined by the State Board of Nursing

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficient computer skills for data entry and information retrieval.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and professionally.
  • Competence in using Windows-based applications and specific software relevant to the role.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with Advanced Practice Provider policies and protocols at both departmental and system levels.
  • Reliable transportation for travel between facilities.
  • Flexibility to work varied schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Employs approved medical practices in delivering patient care.
  • Delivers care tailored to the physical, psycho-social, educational, and safety needs of patients across different age groups.
  • Maintains a questioning attitude towards medical practices and patient outcomes, potentially developing research methodologies.
  • Facilitates educational experiences for patients' families, staff, other healthcare professionals, and the community.
  • Adjusts behavior to meet the specific needs of the patient population, ensuring respect for privacy and effective communication.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The role may require standing for extended periods, as well as bending, reaching, and manual dexterity.

Exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissues is routine. The incumbent works in a patient care environment, which may involve contact with communicable diseases and hazardous materials.
