Construction Quality Inspector

Position Overview:
In this role, you will provide essential technical guidance and limited oversight in the evaluation of construction materials, machinery, and engineering projects, along with related responsibilities as necessary.
Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a High School diploma or a G.E.D. Equivalency Diploma issued by a recognized State Department of Education.
Experience Requirements:
EITHER:
Permanent employment status with the Sewerage & Water Board as a Laborer, accompanied by a minimum of six (6) months of experience in construction inspection.
A verification letter from the appointing authority confirming this experience must be submitted within two (2) weeks of application submission.
OR:
At least one (1) year of semi-skilled experience in industrial or engineering construction or inspection.
Before appointment, the hiring agency will verify the education claimed by the applicant to meet the qualifications for this position. If selected, candidates must present original documents of their qualifying credentials to the hiring agency prior to commencing work.
Assessment:
A written examination, weighted at 100%, will assess the applicant's knowledge of fundamental mathematics, basic engineering principles, report preparation, and other relevant subjects.

Domicile Requirements:
Currently, domicile requirements are waived for application purposes. However, all new full-time employees hired into this classification must establish residency in Orleans Parish within 180 days of hire.
Background Check:
The hiring department will conduct interviews of qualified candidates before initiating a criminal background check. Employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation, which includes criminal history, but having a criminal history will not automatically disqualify a candidate.
Application Process:
Applications must be submitted on the official application form and received in the Department of City Civil Service before the close of business on the final filing date. Late applications will not be accepted.
Working Test Period:
The probationary period for all positions in the classified service is one year.
Substance Abuse Testing:
Candidates for certain positions may be required to undergo pre-employment substance abuse screening. All other original entrance positions will require unannounced substance abuse screening during the probationary period.
Important Notes:
Applicants must possess a valid driver's license for identification during all examination phases. Veterans may receive additional credit during original entrance examinations if claimed appropriately.
Experience Credit:
Experience gained in positions requiring a Bachelor's Degree upon entrance is defined as professional administrative experience.
