We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Peer Specialist to join our team at the Veterans Health Administration. As a Peer Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting our Veterans in their recovery journey, providing guidance and mentorship to help them achieve their goals and improve their overall well-being.
Key Responsibilities- Assist Veterans in articulating their goals for recovery and personal wellness, and help them develop strategies to achieve these goals.
- Provide support and guidance to Veterans in their treatment plans, helping them to identify and overcome challenges and obstacles.
- Model effective coping techniques and self-help strategies based on your own recovery experience, and help Veterans to develop these skills.
- Support Veterans in advocating for themselves to obtain effective services, and help them to navigate the healthcare system.
- Participate in the service, training, consultation, and other professional activities of VA health care services, and function as a fully vested member of the multidisciplinary team.
- Must be a Veteran who has recovered or is recovering from a mental health condition.
- Must have at least 1 year of recovery from a mental health condition.
- Must be certified by a not-for-profit entity engaged in peer specialist training or a State as having satisfied relevant State requirements for a peer specialist position.
- Must have a full, current, and unrestricted peer specialist certification to meet this qualification requirement for employment in VHA as a peer specialist.
- Experience working with Veterans and their families.
- Knowledge of mental health recovery principles and practices.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
