Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced General Facilities Repair and Maintenance Technician to join our facilities team at Lowell General Hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of general maintenance, preventive maintenance, inspection, servicing, repair, overhaul, and construction duties in hospital buildings and grounds areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform electrical repairs, including removal and replacement of switches, ballasts, motors, motor controls, etc.
  • Perform plumbing tasks, such as drains, fixtures, rodding, cleaning, etc., as assigned.
  • Perform minor carpentry tasks, including installation and repair of doors, shelving, locks, etc., as needed.
  • Repair plaster, brickwork, or concrete as needed.
  • Solder and weld materials as needed.
  • Perform service and preventative maintenance on hospital equipment and systems.
  • Repair patient electrical, mechanical, and electrical beds and equipment, as assigned, in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturers' specifications.
  • Check all lighting in and around the hospital buildings on a regular basis and replace bulbs and/or make necessary repairs to fixtures.
  • Repair various types of electrical circuits and devices, as needed, and clean fixtures on a regular basis.
  • Check hospital systems for proper function, including electrical power, air handling units, medical gas, steam boiler operation, hot water, etc.
  • Remove and replace defective or outdated equipment.
  • Procure necessary parts and materials for jobs.
  • Inspect and repair safety equipment installed throughout the hospital.
  • Clean the workshop and mechanical equipment.
  • Handle hazardous materials carefully and dispose of them properly.
  • Perform project work, as assigned.
  • Install new equipment as per manufacturers' specifications.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on hospital equipment and systems.
  • Participate in all snow removal and sanding functions.
  • Assist other coworkers with trouble-shooting and necessary repairs, as well as installation of new services or projects related to Plant operations.
  • Seek a standard of work that is equal to or above that which is required, including applicable codes and standards.
  • Regularly adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments or install special functional and structural parts, as required.
  • Maintain inventory and reorder parts as necessary, keeping storage areas neatly organized.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of building maintenance experience.
  • On-the-job training in one or more building trades.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of a vocational/trade school program.
  • Two (2) years of building maintenance experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent bending, squatting, and stooping.
  • Occasional lifting of heavy weights.
  • Prolonged standing, walking, climbing stairs, and ladders.
  • May be exposed to hazards from use of tools and power equipment.
  • Requires fine hand coordination to handle tools and other equipment.
  • Requires ability to hear verbal communication and see written or printed information.
