We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Laboratory Assistant - Blood Bank Specialist to join our team at OneBlood. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing routine laboratory tasks, processing samples, and maintaining accurate records.
Key Responsibilities- Receive and process blood samples to determine suitability for transfusion
- Prepare and maintain laboratory records and blood shipping forms
- Issue blood and blood components to authorized personnel
- Inspect blood units returned from hospitals and determine suitability for reuse
- Maintain component inventory, including recall and inventory lookback
- Centrifuge whole blood to produce various components
- Modify blood components as required
- Perform unregulated laboratory testing, including pH and bacterial culturing
- Participate in quality control activities and identify errors or potential problems
- Clean and maintain laboratory equipment, supplies, and facilities
- Utilize computer systems to obtain necessary data
- High school diploma or equivalent required; prior blood bank or laboratory experience preferred
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced laboratory environment
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and management
- Basic computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds)
