Job Summary

The Genetic Counselor Assistant will play a vital role in supporting the Genetic Counseling team at Children's National Hospital. This individual will be responsible for preparing for patient visits, including contacting referring physicians and obtaining patient records. They will also be involved in post-clinic duties such as completing test requisition forms, coordinating patient DNA sample collection, submitting add-on order requests, and tracking test results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare for patient visits by contacting referring physicians and obtaining patient records
  • Complete test requisition forms and coordinate patient DNA sample collection
  • Submit add-on order requests and track test results
  • Communicate normal test results to patients and draft clinical summary letters
  • Close cases and upload medical records
  • Assist with organizing and developing clinical education resources
  • Support genetic counselor meetings and annual advocacy events
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field (Preferred)
  • 1 year of administrative/clerical experience in a fast-paced environment (Preferred)
  • Familiarity with medical terminology (Preferred)
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Required)
  • Ability to master and navigate EMRs (Cerner, Epic, etc.) (Required)
