Financial Officer (Pre-Award)

Massachusetts Institute of Technology seeks a highly skilled Financial Officer to join its Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) team. The successful candidate will be responsible for comprehensive pre- and post-award financial research management of CSAIL's sponsored activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Advise principal investigators and project leaders on all aspects of pre-award research administration and implement their decisions.
  • Coordinate the preparation, review, and submission of government/industrial/foundation/other organizational proposals.
  • Ensure compliance with agency program announcement requirements and MIT's policies and procedures.
Requirements:
  • B.A./B.S. degree and five years' grants management experience in a nonprofit research administrative function.
  • Experience with federal contracts, administrative rules, cost principles, and regulations under OMB guidelines.
  • Pre-award research administration/sponsored programs, budgeting, requirements, and procedures related to federal/state/other related grants.
  • Cost accounting, government accounting and auditing, grants, contracts, and applications.
  • Electronic research administration requirements from a variety of sponsoring agencies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and internet search tools.
  • Knowledge of enterprise financial systems, proposal application/submission and grants management tools, and multidimensional databases.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Pre-award administration experience in a university/hospital/nonprofit.
  • Experience working with federal sponsors, including NSF, DoD, and NIH.
  • Knowledge of general accounting principles.
