About the Job
Vets Hired is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth Development Associate to join our team. As a key member of our CHOICE Program, you will play a vital role in supporting the well-being of youth and families in our community.
Responsibilities
- Provide guidance and support to youth in the juvenile justice system and their families, fostering a positive and trusting relationship.
- Build strong relationships with youth, parents, and guardians, promoting active participation in program activities.
- Conduct client intake and assessment interviews, gathering essential information to inform program development.
- Assist in providing comprehensive family-based assessments, identifying areas for improvement and developing strategies for growth.
- Develop and maintain helping relationships with parents or guardians, emphasizing client accountability and empowerment.
- Advocate for clients in areas of health, education, vocation, and family intervention, ensuring they receive the support they need to thrive.
- Plan and lead recreational activities for clients, promoting socialization, teamwork, and fun.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records and client files, adhering to program requirements and funding regulations.
- Participate in Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings, collaborating with colleagues to share knowledge, best practices, and resources.
- Work closely with the probation department and other public and private organizations, ensuring seamless referrals and service delivery.
- Prepare monthly statistical reports, tracking program progress and outcomes.
- Engage in outreach efforts to target populations, promoting program awareness and accessibility.
- Transport clients safely and securely, utilizing personal vehicle (mileage reimbursement) as needed.
- Participate in agency special events, such as fundraisers, annual meetings, and open houses, representing Vets Hired and promoting program initiatives.
- Provide crisis intervention services and referrals, ensuring clients receive timely and effective support.
- Assist in implementing program components, contributing to the development and growth of the CHOICE Program.
- Participate in all required meetings and training, staying up-to-date on best practices and program requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, criminal justice, social work, or a closely related field, required.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in child, youth, and family services, preferred. Experience in community-based or neighborhood service organizations is highly valued.
- Experience in individual, group, and family counseling, school-based services, outreach, community education, organizing/facilitating group outings and development, advocacy, and case management is essential.
- Ability to work with diverse populations, possess cultural sensitivity, and maintain appropriate boundaries with clients.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred.
- Must be available to work some evenings and partial weekends, as needed. Schedule is either Sunday through Thursday or Tuesday through Saturday.
Condition of Employment
- Employment may be conditioned upon satisfactory completion of certain background clearances, including a Department of Justice criminal background check, screening through the National Sex Offender Public Website, drug test, tuberculosis (TB) test, and additional clearances as required.
- Candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment will be required to undergo testing for controlled substances, in accordance with the County of San Diego's drug and alcohol policy and the federal Controlled Substances Act.
- Candidate must have reliable transportation, successfully completing a motor vehicle history check, possessing a current valid California driver's license, and valid auto insurance policy.
