We are seeking a highly skilled Network Systems Engineer to join our team at the Applied Research Laboratory at Penn State University. Key Responsibilities:- Administer and ensure the operation of our network infrastructure
- Respond and remediate system and network security vulnerabilities
- Implement, test, and support new and emerging technologies while applying security best practices and required compliance measures
- Analyze network traffic and diagnose/correct network and performance issues
- Conduct risk assessments to determine residual levels of risk and required mitigations
- Present network security principles and technology solutions to diverse audiences
- Oversight of the installation and configuration of networks and secure enclaves to comply with Government and Federal regulations
- Participate in the implementation of required policies, procedures, and configurations; make recommendations for improvements
- Assist in the development and acquisition of network management tools
- Background with network automation, enterprise LANs, authentication methods, VLANs, and Layer 3 switching
- Ability to certify and maintain an information security related certification (DoD 8140/8570 - Security+, CASP+, CySA+)
- Systems integration in a heterogeneous network environment
- Knowledge in NIST/ISO standards, DoD directives, and regulatory requirements
- Operating and providing network administration and support in a high-security research computing environment
- Current, fully adjudicated TOP SECRET (Tier 5) clearance
- Familiarity in operating within a DoD type environment
- Served as COMSEC technical administrator or KMS account manager
- Next generation layer 7 firewalls (Palo Alto)
- Maintenance of secure Windows and Linux servers
- Advanced knowledge within the development and deployment of secure network enclaves
- Skillset to include management of other network supporting services within a secure environment (IPAM/NAC/DNS/DHCP)
- Possess excellent communication skills. Highly motivated and ability to work independently to plan, identify problems, and produce results.
Your working location will be on-site in State College, PA, with the possibility of limited hybrid work. ARL at Penn State is an integral part of one of the leading research universities in the nation and serves as a University center of excellence in defense science, systems, and technologies with a focus in naval missions and related areas.
You will be subject to a government security investigation, and you must be a U.S. citizen to apply. Employment with the ARL will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is: $68,102,300.00
