Job Title: Registered Nurse - Evening Shift
Job Specialty: Nursing
Job Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: 5x8 hour shifts per week, 1:30 pm - 10:00 pm, including weekends on a rotating basis
Guaranteed Hours: Information not provided
Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of RN experience in Corrections
License: Current unencumbered RN License in applicable state
Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in assessing physical, psychological, and social dimensions of patients in health care units and housing units.
Participate in planning individual treatment programs by consulting with charge nurses and other staff.
Implement individualized treatment programs as directed by healthcare practitioners.
Count and document controlled substances, syringes, needles, and sharps at the beginning of each shift.
Administer medications according to proper techniques and procedures, including IV therapy if certified.
Obtain diagnostic tests such as EKGs and body fluid specimens as per practitioner orders.
Assist healthcare practitioners in medical or minor surgical procedures as needed.
Implement nutrition and therapeutic diet plans as ordered.
Document nursing encounters using the SOAP form of charting.
Communicate patient information to nursing staff, physicians, and supervisory personnel.
Attend mandatory staff meetings and training sessions.
Work in a well-lit environment with fluctuating temperatures.
Lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and supplies; ability to negotiate stairs and lift patients as required.
Be aware of potential exposure to blood or hazardous materials and adhere to safety protocols.
Understand and comply with all security rules and regulations within a correctional facility.
