Job Title: Registered Nurse - Evening Shift

SCI Chester is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our team in a correctional facility setting. As a Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care to inmates in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse will work in a correctional facility setting, providing medical care to inmates. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nursing, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a correctional facility.

Responsibilities:
  • Assess the physical, psychological, and social dimensions of patients and develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Implement treatment plans as directed by healthcare practitioners and consult with Charge Nurses and other staff as needed.
  • Count controlled substances, syringes, needles, and sharps at the beginning of each shift with another staff member and sign count logs.
  • Implement clinical and technical aspects of care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Respond to emergency codes or patient crises according to site policy and procedure.
  • Administer medications as ordered by healthcare practitioners and according to protocols, including IV therapy (when certified).
  • Obtain diagnostic tests, body fluid specimens, and perform EKGs as per healthcare practitioner orders.
  • Assist healthcare practitioners in medical or minor surgical procedures as necessary.
  • Implement nutrition and therapeutic diet plans as ordered by healthcare practitioners.
  • Document nursing encounters using the SOAP form of charting as required.
  • Communicate pertinent information to appropriate nursing staff, physicians, healthcare unit supervisory personnel, and other necessary staff.
Requirements:
  • Current unencumbered RN license.
  • Minimum one (1) year of RN experience in corrections.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association.
  • Ability to work independently in a correctional facility and willingness to work every other weekend.
Physical Demands and Conditions:

The role requires working in a clean, well-lit environment with fluctuating temperatures. Requires significant periods using a computer, monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Involves lifting and carrying equipment and supplies up to 35 pounds, and pushing and pulling up to 75 pounds. Requires walking, standing, sitting, and the ability to negotiate stairs. Requires the ability to lift patients in and out of bed, wheelchair, and/or stretcher. Visual acuity and manual dexterity are necessary to operate equipment. There is potential exposure to blood and/or body substances and hazardous materials, requiring observance of standard precautions and safe handling practices.

Employees are expected to work in accordance with all security rules and regulations to minimize the risk of danger and/or harm to themselves or others.
