Job Title: Respiratory Therapist, PRN

Gundersen Health System is seeking a skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team on a PRN basis. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Assess patient cardiopulmonary status to develop, revise, implement, and evaluate a respiratory care plan based on established practice guidelines, protocols, and competent clinical judgment.
  • Assist in airway management and monitoring of patients undergoing special procedures.
  • Identify and address the special needs of patients in critical care settings.
  • Practice in accordance with the established minimum standards as described by the Respiratory Care (RC) department competency-based assessment inventory.
  • Assist patients, family members, and other healthcare providers to facilitate the discharge process through education, training, and coordination of equipment referrals.
  • Responsible for maintaining and improving job knowledge and technical skills in order to provide competent, state-of-the-art respiratory care that promotes healing and optimal health of Gundersen Health System patients.
  • Provides education and professional expertise to patients and family members, the healthcare team, and to the community in order to teach, consult, refer, and manage respiratory disease and wellness.
  • Works with RC Assistants and students to provide clinical direction and supervision.
  • Assists in training new personnel.
  • Performs other job-related responsibilities as requested.
Requirements:
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) by the state of Wisconsin.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) within two years of hire date.
  • Current Infant-Adult Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (with hands-on learning) from one of the following programs; American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Neonatal/Pediatric Respiratory Care Specialist credential (CRT-NPS or RRT-NPS) required if selected to be on the Neonatal/Pediatric Transport Team.
Work Environment:

This position is located in a hospital setting and requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions. The Respiratory Therapist will be required to wear a respirator and be exposed to infectious diseases.

Physical Requirements:

The Respiratory Therapist will be required to sit frequently, stand frequently, and walk/stand frequently. The position also requires the ability to stoop/bend, squat, kneel/half kneel, climb stairs, and reach above shoulder level.
