A Polysomnographic Technician plays a crucial role in assisting the Technologist with comprehensive Polysomnographic testing and analysis, as well as associated interventions under the direct supervision of a Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) and/or the clinical director (MD, PhD, DO) or designee.
Key Responsibilities- Act as a team member within the organization to assist in accomplishing goals and objectives.
- Demonstrate a positive customer service attitude.
- Positive survey feedback in the 90th percentile or greater.
- Patient satisfaction survey.
- Gathers, analyzes, and integrates patient information to identify and meet patient-specific needs.
- Prepares and calibrates equipment required for testing, as well as assesses the need for maintenance of sleep equipment and software.
- Applies electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.
- Performs appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals and makes adjustments if necessary.
- Assists with positive airway pressure (PAP) titration studies and mask fittings according to published standards.
- Follows procedural protocols per published standards for PSG, CPAP, Bi-level, MWT, and MSLT to ensure collection of appropriate data.
- Documents routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, as per procedure manual.
- Assists qualified staff in implementing appropriate interventions to ensure safe and high-quality care for patients.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide, as directed, age-specific care in the treatment, assessment.
- Answers telephone, schedules appointments, and directs patient needs.
- Obtains copy and distributes medical records as required.
- Orders and restocks supplies for the department.
- Maintains proper documentation on patient records, log books, procedure schedules, charges, and charting.
- Keeps Medical Director and supervisor informed of patients that may require alteration in their care.
- Assists in data collection as assigned.
- Completes departmental documentation and record keeping according to policy.
- Assumes responsibility for ongoing professional development and continuing education.
- Maintains professional requirements.
- Maintains knowledge and/or has the skills to provide service appropriate for the position.
- Education: Graduate from an accredited School of Clinical Polysomnography, RRT/CRT preferred.
- Work Experience: Two years in respiratory therapy setting preferred.
- Training: per licensure.
- License/Certification: Certificate of completion from School of Clinical Polysomnography.
