Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse III position is a licensed staff nurse who functions at the Proficient level and provides professional direct patient nursing care to a diverse patient population. This role is considered an expert in a specialty and is responsible for coaching and mentoring department staff in areas of clinical and professional practice.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify staff development opportunities for professional growth of colleagues and provide coaching to meet identified goals.
  • Collaborate to foster healthy relationships in the work environment and advocate for a balanced workload.
  • Improve nurse satisfaction by serving as a role model and mentor and facilitating teamwork with RNs, non-licensed and interprofessional staff.
  • Lead the patient and family-centered care standards and mentor others regarding specialty populations.
  • Develop, update, and communicate plan of care, including discharge, in partnership with the patient, family, and interprofessional health care team.
  • Develop and implement effective patient teaching strategies based on learning needs and use appropriate resources.
  • Drive department activities to improve department score for patient satisfaction through peer-to-peer accountability.
  • Model the standards of care related to the nursing process and provide care as the staff nurse leader to complex patients.
  • Model the standards related to regulatory requirements and professional practice and contribute to professional practice standards, policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Lead and identify opportunities for practice changes and performance improvement and investigate and incorporate evidence-based practices.
  • Implement department strategies to achieve financial targets and mentor others to do the same through timely documentation of care and other areas.
  • Expand individual nursing knowledge and coach staff to grow in knowledge, abilities, skills, and attitudes.
  • Foster identification and implementation of innovative solutions to improve patient care or unit operations.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited School of Nursing required.
  • Two (2) years nursing experience in a healthcare environment required.
  • Current Texas Board of Nursing (or Compact State) RN license required or temporary TX License (Permanent license to be obtained within 90 days of hire).
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • NIHSS required (within 6 months of hire date).
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required (within 6 months of hire date).
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required (within 6 months of hire date).
