Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Technologist to join our team at Yale New Haven Health. As a Medical Technologist, you will be responsible for performing routine and specialized clinical laboratory analyses in the Microbiology Laboratory.

Responsibilities
  • Interpret bacterial, fungal, and mycobacterial cultures, and identify and susceptibility of bacteria, yeast, and mold isolates.
  • Participate in inventory control, including reagent and quality control preparation and verification/validation.
  • Independently troubleshoot and follow up on any problems/issues, including documentation and escalation if required.
  • Collaborate on standard operating procedures revisions/drafts as needed to adjust for process improvement initiatives and regulatory changes.
  • Utilize Laboratory Information System (LIS) applications to report, identify, and troubleshoot specimens effectively.
  • Perform multiple tasks to optimize efficiency and prioritize work according to urgency and medical need.
  • Participate in teaching lab personnel, students, and lab residents following established laboratory procedures.
  • Participate in the department's continuing education program and document a minimum of 12 education credits annually.
  • Adhere to laboratory policies and procedures, regulatory requirements, hospital attendance and tardiness policies, and demonstrate mutual respect for all laboratory personnel.
  • Exhibit excellent customer service skills and collaborate with other departments and clients regarding inquiries and test results.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology, Microbiology, or equivalent.
  • MT(ASCP), M(ASCP), SM(ASCP) or equivalent eligibility required; certification preferred.
  • One (1) or two (2) years experience in an accredited Clinical Laboratory.
Working Conditions

Must be able to tolerate PPE required to work in a BSL2 or BSL3 laboratory.
