Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Surgical Services Assistant to join our team at SSM Health. As a key member of our surgical services team, you will provide direct assistance to surgeons before, during, and after surgical procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Position patients to give best exposure for surgical procedure, using stabilizing equipment when necessary, while maximizing patient comfort and safety.
  • Implement physicians' orders to provide visualization of the operative site using appropriate method, including manipulation of tissue and materials, retraction, sponging, suctioning, and irrigation.
  • Utilize appropriate technique to achieve temporary and permanent hemostasis.
  • Assist with body plane closure, application of wound dressings, and securing of drainage systems.
  • Apply the existing body of evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge in healthcare to nursing practice, ensuring that nursing care is delivered based on patient's age-specific needs and clinical needs.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
Requirements
  • Completion of an RNFA program that meets the AORN standards for RN first assistant education program.
  • Two years' registered nurse experience in an advanced surgical specialty or an APRN that has completed the RNFA program that meets the AORN standards for RN first assistant education program.
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Registered Nurse (RN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) or Registered Nurse (RN) Issued by Compact State.
  • Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) - Competency & Credentialing Institute (CCI).
