Pharmacy Technician II

As a Pharmacy Technician II at Health First, you will play a vital role in supporting our pharmacy team in providing high-quality patient care. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. You will work closely with our pharmacy staff to ensure that medications are accurately filled, labeled, and delivered to patients in a timely manner.
Key Responsibilities:
Quality/No Harm:
- Fills physician orders, medication carts, or stock requisitions accurately.
- Prepares intravenous admixtures or other sterile products accurately.
- Replenishes medications in Pyxis units.
- Delivers medication and supplies to patient care and ancillary areas per established delivery.
- Rotates stock to ensure use before expiration date.
- Restocks medication and IV dispensing areas.
- Attends pharmacy staff meetings and reads pertinent email communication.
- Participates in orientation, education, and training programs. Reviews literature and other materials as assigned.
- Completes all competence/skills assessment requirements.
- Maintains patient and department/hospital confidentiality.
- Maintains Technician Registration.
- Identifies and replaces outdated and unusable drugs.
- Generates reports, pick lists, and labels as required.
- Maintains logs, records, and other required documentation accurately. Files documentation in appropriate locations.
- Collects data, conducts quality monitors, and completes documentation as assigned.
- Maintains bar-code database; packages bar code medications.
- Completes patient Medication Reconciliations accurately and efficiently.
Stewardship:
- Enters charges and credits for patient medications accurately.
- Ensures supplies and pharmacy stock are used appropriately to limit waste.
- Identify opportunities to reduce waste and provide cost savings.
Customer Experience:
- Picks up orders, requisitions, and medications for return from patient care areas when on delivery rounds.
- Assists in ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing pharmaceuticals and supplies in appropriate locations.
- Generates labels as required.
- Answers the telephone, identifying self and department. Directs calls to appropriate personnel.
- Answers requests at the window and makes stat deliveries to patient care areas when requested.
- Organizes and prioritizes work assignments.
- Demonstrates good oral and written communication.
- Keeps pharmacy areas clean, neat, and well organized. Keeps pharmacy equipment clean.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Maintains patient and Department/Hospital confidentiality.
Qualifications:
Current State of Florida Registration Pharmacy Technician registration or current State of Florida Pharmacy Intern registration required. National pharmacy technician certification by the PTCB or ExCPT preferred. IV admixture experience preferred. Computer skills to support distribution systems required. Availability to work long and irregular hours; includes evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
