POSITION OVERVIEW
A Field Service Specialist plays a crucial role in the initiation, commissioning, integration, and urgent repair of Vertiv electrical switchgear systems, including 480VAC and 15KVAC units. This encompasses Power Distribution Units (PDU), Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), Power Distribution Centers (PDC), circuit breakers, protective relays, programmable logic controllers (PLC), meters, and various automated devices. Additionally, the role involves mechanical repairs and modifications under the guidance of senior technicians.
The Specialist is expected to cultivate, enhance, and sustain excellent relationships with customers, colleagues, sales personnel, and other relevant stakeholders. Continuous communication with the Customer Response Center (CRC), Supervisors, and direct management is also essential.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Utilize limited experience and judgment to strategize and achieve objectives.
- Execute a diverse range of work-related tasks.
- Operate effectively under general supervision while maintaining a high degree of independence.
- Uphold certifications as outlined in the Job Progression framework.
TECHNICAL DUTIES
- Provide on-site and telephonic support to clients.
- Liaise with National Technical Support regarding equipment challenges.
- Conduct tasks in accordance with company protocols for scheduled maintenance.
- Implement Field Change Notices following established guidelines.
- Stay updated on Safety Bulletins, Safety Field Change Notices, and Service Tips.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED is mandatory.
- ASMET certification is required.
- A valid driver's license is essential.
- Mechanical and electrical aptitude with a minimum of 2 years of hands-on electronic experience or field service.
- Training in electrical theory and technologies is necessary.
- Familiarity with electrical/electronic testing equipment and principles.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and blueprints.
- Must be capable of regularly lifting at least 50 pounds.
- Specific vision capabilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Proficient in standard computer applications including MS Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications:
- ASEET certification is preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Medium lifting (30 lbs. - 45 lbs.) and heavy lifting (over 50 lbs.) are required.
- Frequent standing, kneeling, crawling, stooping, bending, twisting, and climbing (stairs, ladders) are part of the job.
- Regular driving (car, van, truck) is necessary.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
- Exposure to extreme cold (below 32°F) and extreme heat (above 100°F).
- Medium to high noise levels necessitating shouting to communicate.
- Working in proximity to moving machinery (forklifts, tractors) is common.
- Use of protective equipment (earplugs, gloves, eyewear, respirators, masks, etc.) is required.
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions is expected.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
- Travel time is approximately 80%.
