Job Summary

Medstar is seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician II - Inpatient PRN to join our team. As a Pharmacy Technician II, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and accurate preparation and dispensing of medications to patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and fill routine orders for prescribed medications, restock automated dispensing machines, and repack medications.
  • Compound both sterile and non-sterile medications under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Abide by recommendations from regulatory and advisory groups regarding safe medication principles, including look-alike, sound-alike, and high-alert drugs.
  • Participate in meetings and on committees, representing the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.
  • Contribute to the achievement of established department goals and objectives, adhering to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards.
  • Ensure that medications are properly and safely stored throughout the hospital, storing medications under conditions necessary to ensure stability.
  • Secure medications in accordance with the hospital's policy, law, and regulation, refilling and replacing medications in automated medication dispensing machines throughout the hospital.
  • Participate in the evaluation of the hospital's medication management system for risk points and identify areas to improve safety.
  • Safely and accurately prepare all medications in the most ready-to-administer form, using proper techniques, calculations, and appropriate precautions.
  • Label and package medications according to hospital policy, applicable laws and regulations, and standards of practice to ensure safe, accurate administration.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an approved/accredited Pharmacy Technician training program preferred.
  • Less than 1 year 6 months related pharmacy technician experience and hospital environment experience preferred.
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician through the Board of Pharmacy required.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification within 180 Days required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Basic computer skills preferred.

This position has a hiring range of $31.36.
