Charge Nurse

The Charge Nurse is a key member of the inpatient care team, responsible for leading patient flow and adjusting unit staffing to meet the dynamic needs of patients. This role requires a strong clinical leader who can make ongoing evaluations of patients' acuity, assess staff nurses' workload, and anticipate fluctuations in admissions, discharges, and transfers.
Responsibilities- Facilitate patient flow by triaging and prioritizing admissions and overseeing care coordination for patients being discharged or transferred.
- Employ effective decision-making behaviors to safely balance changes in patient acuity and census with staff nurses' availability, experience, and competency.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to facilitate patient care stay progression and unit goals.
- Assume a patient assignment as determined by the needs of the unit.
- Monitor and intervene in addressing opportunities for assuring regulatory compliance, quality effectiveness, and a satisfactory patient experience.
Clinical competence and experience in caring for target patient populations are required. A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required, and 2-3 years of related clinical experience is preferred. Leadership roles, such as Shared Governance unit-based council chair or Committee chair, are also desirable.
