Childcare Assistant

Catholic Charities Diocese of Paterson is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Before/After School Program Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our youth services team, you will play a vital role in providing a safe and nurturing environment for children.
Job Summary:The Before/After School Program Assistant will be responsible for supervising and ensuring the safety and well-being of children at all times. This includes being alert to the needs and concerns of individual children and the group as a whole.
Key Responsibilities:- Maintain a positive and caring classroom environment that meets the requirements of the Office of Licensing and the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
- Work collaboratively as a team member within the classroom and the entire school community.
- Plan and implement engaging activities that cater to the needs and interests of children.
- Ensure the maintenance of classroom equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Attend training and professional development sessions as required by the Office of Licensing and the Child Care & Development Block Grant.
- Participate in scheduled staff meetings and evaluation conferences.
- Adhere to cleaning and sanitation procedures as outlined by the program and licensing requirements.
- Inform the Program Director or Director's Designee of any classroom maintenance needs or safety concerns.
- Report any accidents or unusual occurrences to the Program Director or Director's Designee before the end of the workday.
- Report any suspected cases of child abuse or neglect to the appropriate authorities as outlined in the Employee Handbook, Office of Licensing, and School District Guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director to support the effective operation of Catholic Charities.
- High School Diploma, CDA, or college credits.
- Knowledge of child development principles.
- Effective English oral and written communication skills.
- Oral and written skills in a second language (Spanish, Arabic, Bengali, etc.) are a plus.
- Ability to accurately complete necessary documentation and forms.
