KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Proficient in electro-optic cable terminations and jointing, along with sub-surface communications cable management and electronics assembly.
- Tasks may involve fiber optic splicing, potting of mechanical and electronic components, Hi-Pot testing, hydrostatic-pressure testing, and soldering of electrical and electronic assemblies.
- Skilled in soldering electronic components onto circuit boards and other electrical assemblies.
- Perform both coarse and fine adjustments using hand tools, precision measuring devices, and specialized equipment such as vacuum equipment, digital indicators, optical microscopes, height gauges, Vernier gauges, micrometers, and electronic testing fixtures.
- Provide expert support in the assembly of potting, electro-mechanical, and fiber optic assemblies.
- Handle, inspect, clean, and prepare delicate optical components and assemblies.
- Understand and utilize a wide range of electrical/electronic and mechanical parts and components including fiber optics, solder, wire, resistors, diodes, capacitors, relays, transformers, coils, switches, PC boards, epoxies, and crimping tools.
- Read and interpret schematics and wiring diagrams effectively.
- Work with adhesives, precision assembly tools, and various equipment such as fusion splicers, high precision fiber cleavers, polishing machines, and testing tools.
- Act as a positive role model within the team.
- Assist with production scheduling and control.
- Engage in on-the-job training and contribute to the development and implementation of new training programs, introducing new processes and sequences for production areas.
- Participate in program or functional team projects aimed at developing process improvement methods, solutions, and procedures to enhance program quality, cost, and scheduling.
- Support the implementation and maintenance of the 5S+1 program to ensure work areas and equipment are orderly and safe; report and rectify any unsafe practices or conditions immediately.
- Lead daily departmental GEMBA meetings, updating board contents, following up on actions, and measuring effectiveness and performance.
- Comply with ESD standards, chemical handling, calibrated tooling, and equipment audits.
- Assist in identifying the need for tooling and testing equipment, making recommendations for design and planning.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience with sub-surface communication optical cable, potting, fiber optics, and electro-mechanical assemblies.
- Certification as an IPC Specialist to IPC J-STD-001 standards is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and writing skills are essential.
- A two-year post-secondary/Associates degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or equivalent work experience with at least 6 years in an electronics manufacturing environment.
- Ability to devise creative yet practical solutions to technical challenges.
- Demonstrated experience in interpreting schematic diagrams and engineering drawings.
- Willingness to travel as required.
EDUCATION:
- A two-year post-secondary/Associates degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or equivalent work experience with at least 6 years in an electronics manufacturing environment.
