Job Title: Chief Auditor

We are seeking a highly skilled Chief Auditor to join our team at the Department of Investigation. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing auditing services to ensure compliance with contractual obligations.

Job Summary:

The Chief Auditor will report to the Director of Upstate Monitorships and will supervise an Investigative Auditor. The selected candidate will be responsible for participating in regular reviews of project documents, attending regular meetings, reviewing payment submittals and other records, and working with the monitorship team to identify risk areas for DEP and participate in the articulation of recommendations to DEP for improved contract compliance.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide auditing services to ensure compliance with contractual obligations
  • Participate in regular reviews of project documents
  • Attend regular meetings
  • Review payment submittals and other records
  • Work with the monitorship team to identify risk areas for DEP
  • Participate in the articulation of recommendations to DEP for improved contract compliance
Requirements:
  • A master's degree from an accredited college in economics, finance, accounting, business, or statistics, or a closely related field
  • Three years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in one of a combination of the following: budget administration, accounting, economic or financial administration, fiscal or economic research, management or methods analysis, operations research, organizational research, program evaluation, personnel or public administration, recruitment, position classification, personnel relations, employee benefits, staff development, employment program planning/administration, labor market research, economic planning, social services program planning/evaluation, or fiscal management
  • Experience supervising other auditors is preferred
  • Knowledge of the construction industry is a plus
  • Knowledge of, and demonstrated interest in, law enforcement and criminal justice
  • Relationship-builder with strong interpersonal skills who effectively conveys information verbally and in writing
  • Highly analytical thinker with demonstrated talent for identifying, scrutinizing, improving, and streamlining complex work processes
  • Excel proficiency is preferred
  • Knowledge of/ability to utilize data analytics platforms and/or auditing software
  • Familiarity with New York City is a plus
  • Candidate must possess a valid New York State Drivers License
Minimum Qualifications:
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization and four years of satisfactory full-time experience in an industrial or governmental agency in the field of investigation, auditing, law enforcement, security, inspections, or in a major operational area of the agency in which the appointment is to be made
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to 1 or 2 above
