Overview / Job Summary:

Instructors in this program are tasked with delivering ground school courses that align with students' flight training as part of this part 141 program. This is a Full-time Exempt position, requiring a minimum commitment of 40 hours per week. The primary role of an instructor includes the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and assessment of classroom instruction and related activities. Instructors are expected to perform their duties in the designated instructional format (hybrid, online, or face-to-face) during various times, including day, evening, or weekend sessions at any WSU Tech campus or online platform. Responsibilities encompass instruction, academic counseling, academic planning, committee participation, recruitment, and engagement in local, state, regional, and national professional activities as necessary. Instructors will execute all tasks as directed by the Program Director, Associate Dean, Dean, Academic Vice President, or the President.

Your daily responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing and/or uploading a comprehensive course syllabus for each course to the Learning Management System.
  • Keeping students informed and updated regarding course content, requirements, evaluation criteria, and attendance policies.
  • Maintaining precise and complete academic records, including course communications in the LMS, grades, census rosters, and attendance logs.
  • Submitting all academic records by the specified deadlines.
  • Assessing students to gauge their progress towards achieving course outcomes and competencies.
  • Maintaining industry credentials relevant to the teaching area.
  • Creating, revising, and/or recommending curriculum modifications that align with course/program objectives and enhance student learning.
The instructor will be responsible for creating and organizing course syllabi for all classes utilizing the Learning Management System. They will ensure that courses contain the necessary content and teaching methodologies, remain current in relevant subjects, and foster student engagement. The instructor will evaluate student progress and propose curriculum enhancements to improve learning outcomes.

Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills Required:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and possess the ability to read, speak, and write in English.
  • Must hold at least one of the following qualifications:
    • Current Certified Flight Instructor rating OR
    • Basic Ground Instructor; Advanced Ground Instructor; & Instrument Ground Instructor rating.
  • Preferred qualifications include: Commercial ASEL/AMEL/IR, Flight Instructor, Instrument Flight Instructor, Multi-engine Flight Instructor certificates.
  • One year of experience as a ground instructor is preferred.
  • Experience with flight simulators, particularly Frasca Simulators, is preferred.
  • G1000 experience is preferred.
  • Previous teaching or training experience in adult education is preferred.
  • Experience teaching in an online or hybrid format is preferred.
