Role of the Active Support Specialist:

The Active Support Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring that activity plans are tailored to meet the needs of the individuals served. This includes providing appropriate levels of assistance and fostering positive interactions with clients. Staff training is essential to deliver the right support at the right time, and activities must be adjusted to allow each participant to engage as fully as possible with minimal assistance. While the focus is on individuals with multiple or severe disabilities, the Active Support Specialist will adapt plans designed by supervisors to maximize engagement for all learners.

This position encompasses direct support responsibilities, including assisting with personal care, offering behavioral support, and obtaining a class B driver's license. Active Support Specialists will work with rotating groups of adults, providing instructional support as needed.

Compensation: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to obtain a driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • A high school diploma or GED is required; an Associate's or Bachelor's degree is preferred, along with a minimum of four years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • A comprehensive understanding of active support principles and strategies for individuals with developmental disabilities is essential.
  • A criminal background check is mandatory.
