Job Summary

The Claims and Litigation Division of the Office of Legal Affairs is seeking a skilled Attorney to manage medical malpractice claims filed against the largest municipal healthcare system in the country. Responsibilities may include serving as claims counsel to several H+H facilities, managing vendor contracts, and collaborating with Third-Party Administrators.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct management and oversight of outside counsel medical malpractice defense firms
  • Collaborating with Third-Party Administrators providing claims management services
  • Developing defense strategies, recommending medical experts, and setting indemnity reserves
  • Reviewing and auditing outside counsel billing, approving case management reports, and coordinating claims presentations to senior management
  • Identifying claim patterns, collaborating with senior staff and management on risk management and quality assurance issues
Requirements
  • A baccalaureate degree or equivalent, and LLB or JD from an accredited School of Law, and admission to New York State Bar
  • Three (3) years of experience and background in the practice of law subsequent to admission to the Bar in matters of litigation, negligence, corporate law, contracts, real estate, labor relations, labor law, and employee relations
