Position Overview

Holy Family University is in search of a dedicated full-time Academic Advisor to join our team, focusing on advising first-year, transfer, and undecided students. This role will report directly to the Director of Academic Advising. The Advisor will develop expertise in general education and program curricula, utilize university advising databases, understand registration processes, and adhere to university policies to provide a high-quality advising experience for our students. Participation in our Holistic Academic Advising certification course is also expected.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance to students on course registration, concentration requirements, and the academic implications of course changes.
  • Address student inquiries regarding university policies and procedures.
  • Engage with students throughout the semester to connect them with the best resources for academic success.
  • Utilize advising databases and websites for registration purposes.
  • Build strong relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Assist in training Faculty Advisors.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience in higher education is preferred.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Familiarity with university policies and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within the campus community.
  • Strong skills in student advising, counseling, and group presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with initiative and attention to detail.
  • Capacity to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks with accuracy.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, including active listening and group presentation abilities.
  • Understanding of and appreciation for Holy Family's resources and educational philosophy.
  • Ability to comply with FERPA regulations regarding student records.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends for special events.
