Position Overview:

The Senior Academic Consultant within the Center for Performing and Cinematic Arts (CPCA) plays a pivotal role in guiding various advising staff functions. This includes supervising Student Peer Consultants, leading training initiatives for advisors, and assessing ongoing training requirements.

This role serves as a mentor to advisors and other academic support personnel, ensuring that students receive high-quality advising services.

The Senior Academic Consultant is instrumental in initiating and executing cross-functional student service initiatives, such as integrating career and professional development with academic advising.

Engaging in a range of activities aimed at enhancing student success and retention, the Senior Academic Consultant provides students with access to vital information and resources necessary for achieving their academic, professional, and personal objectives.

This position assists in the development and execution of academic advising strategies and procedures focused on student success and retention. It also involves evaluating the effectiveness of both online and in-person initiatives and tracking data related to advising services and student outcomes. The Senior Academic Consultant acts as an advocate and referral source, offering consistent outreach and follow-up services. Presenting at orientations, group advising sessions, and workshops as assigned is also part of the role. Regular meetings with students across the Center's curricula are conducted to assist with academic planning, registration, and degree completion, all while striving to increase four-year graduation rates. The Senior Academic Consultant develops and manages CPCA orientation programming, utilizing assessments to enhance outreach and effectiveness.

A strong understanding of student development theories is essential, along with the ability to adapt to evolving trends in the first-year and transfer student populations.

Routine academic audits are conducted, and accurate documentation is maintained. Collaboration with faculty, staff, and students is crucial for disseminating information regarding curricular requirements, academic policies, and other relevant details.

This role represents the advising unit at designated college meetings/events and advocates for the unit and the Center at assigned university gatherings, supporting the Center's mission.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed. CPCA is dedicated to fostering a diverse and vibrant educational community that values the arts, open-mindedness, and respect.

Required Education & Experience:
A Master's degree and a minimum of three years of relevant experience. At least two years of academic advising experience in a higher education setting is required. Experience in the performing and cinematic arts, familiarity with higher education or related fields, and knowledge of Temple University academic resources, policies, and curricula are advantageous.
