Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Steam Plant Mechanic to join our team at the University of Tennessee. As a Steam Plant Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing routine maintenance and repairs on steam plant equipment, including boilers, pumps, turbines, and compressors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as inspecting drives, motors, and belts, checking fluid levels, and replacing filters.
  • Repair or replace defective pressure vessel parts, such as safety valves and regulators, using torches, threading dies, welding equipment, or metalworking machinery.
  • Operate power tools, read plans and blueprints, and weld as needed.
  • Assist Senior Mechanics in performing their duties and perform other tasks as directed by the supervisor.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1-2 years of related experience in mechanical maintenance or repair.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
