Role Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Structural Engineer to join our team at Blue Origin. As a key member of our New Glenn Upper Stage development team, you will be responsible for the design, analysis, and testing of propellant tanks and internal structures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and configure launch vehicle propellant tanks, internal structures, and interfaces
  • Perform detailed design, analysis, development, and testing of primary and secondary composite structures exposed to cryogenic liquids
  • Conduct research, develop concepts, and run trade studies to optimize structural performance
  • Build 3D models, detail part drawings, assemblies, installations, and interface control documents
  • Develop test plans, specifications, and documentation for flight hardware development
  • Provide technical mentorship and support to integration teams
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams to select materials, manufacturing processes, and suppliers for world-class aerospace hardware
  • Develop component specifications and lead suppliers
  • Plan, coordinate, conduct tests, and review test data
  • Participate in subsystem test planning, execution, data reduction, and analysis
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering and 10+ years of related experience
  • U.S. citizenship or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
  • Experience on launch vehicles, aircraft, or similar in design of minimal-mass structures, interfaces to fluid systems, material development, and structural testing
  • Strong understanding of structural design and analysis principles, composite structures, and mechanical design skills using Creo and CATIA V5
  • Ability to conduct structural analysis using classical hand-calculation and finite element techniques
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance analysis (ASME Y14.5)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build consensus among stakeholders
  • Experience with rapid development techniques for hardware and industry-standard analysis codes
  • Experience with fabrication using automated fiber placement and tape laying, including ply by ply designs with variable paths and orientations
  • Knowledge of systems engineering practices, fabrication, and integration processes, and quality control

Blue Origin offers a competitive compensation package, including a base salary range of $162,465.75-$227,452.05, depending on location. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, paid parental leave, short and long-term disability, 401(k) with a company match of up to 5%, and an Education Support Program.
