Job Title: Ship Fitter 1st Class

Lyon Shipyard is a leading provider of ship repair and fabrication services, and we are seeking a skilled Ship Fitter 1st Class to join our team.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Ship Fitter 1st Class to work on a variety of ship repair and fabrication projects. The successful candidate will have a strong background in steel fabrication, welding, and ship repair, and will be able to work independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform steel fabrication and welding tasks to support ship repair and fabrication projects
  • Work with blueprints and technical drawings to plan and execute fabrication and repair tasks
  • Operate a variety of tools and equipment, including millers, sanders, grinders, and welding equipment
  • Collaborate with other shipyard employees to ensure timely completion of projects
  • Perform quality control checks to ensure that work meets company standards
Requirements:
  • High school degree or equivalent
  • Apprentice or trade school training in steel fabrication and welding
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in ship repair and fabrication
  • Strong knowledge of steel fabrication and welding techniques
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a shipyard or similar environment
  • Knowledge of ship repair and fabrication software and systems
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
Work Environment:

The work environment for this position will be in a shipyard setting, with exposure to extreme heights, confined spaces, and physical labor. The successful candidate will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all safety protocols.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands of this position include standing, walking, climbing, and lifting. The successful candidate will be required to lift and move heavy objects, and will be exposed to extreme temperatures and weather conditions.

Travel Requirements:

This position will require occasional travel to other shipyards or locations to support projects.
