Job Summary

Lyon Shipyard Inc is seeking a skilled Machinist Z Drive Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our maintenance crew, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing complex mechanical systems and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, and repair plant mechanical and accessory equipment, including pumps, generators, engines, and shafts.
  • Work from blueprints, sketches, work orders, and written and verbal instructions to ensure accurate and efficient repairs.
  • Diagnose and repair industrial, manufacturing, fabrication, and lifting and handling equipment.
  • Locate and repair trouble-causing breakdowns of machines or equipment, and determine the method of repair and sequence of operations.
  • Perform incidental related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • Apprentice or trade school.
  • Master Class: 10+ years of experience in trade, 1st Class: 5+ years of experience in trade, 2nd Class: 3+ years of experience in trade, 3rd Class: 1+ years of experience in trade.
  • Verifiable marine or industrial experience.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing all types of industrial, manufacturing, fabrication, and lifting and handling equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • General knowledge of ship systems, including distilling, steam, diesel plants, and hydraulics systems.
  • Basic blueprint reading skills.
  • Stationary and power tool operation skills.
  • Reach rods and valve operators experience.
  • Pump overhauls and alignments experience.
  • Deck machinery experience.
  • Rudders, shafting, propellers, and related naval vessel terminology knowledge.
Work Environment

This is an industrial environment involving extreme heights, confined spaces, physical labor, and various weather conditions within a shipyard environment.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The employee is required to sit, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.

The employee performs heavy repair and maintenance work that involves climbing, rigging, stooping, bending in confined spaces, and exposure to high pressure steam and other fluids.

The employee must be able to withstand extreme weather conditions (hot and cold).

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although periodic out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
