Position Overview:
The Emergency Response Captain is responsible for supervising and managing a team of Firefighters. This role entails overseeing daily operations, which include fire suppression, emergency medical responses, hazardous materials incidents, and other emergency calls, along with maintaining the Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance schedule. The Captain must be well-versed in regulatory standards set by State, OSHA, and NFPA. This position also involves responding to emergencies and potentially serving as the Incident Commander during critical situations, including hazardous material incidents, fire operations, and medical emergencies.
Key Responsibilities:
• Respond to both emergency and non-emergency situations, providing necessary services such as rescue operations and fire suppression; perform medical assistance and prepare incident reports as required.
• Engage in various fire prevention initiatives, including training, fire investigations, and equipment maintenance; participate in disaster response activities involving hazardous materials and other emergencies.
• Safely identify, isolate, and manage hazardous materials.
• Maintain cleanliness and operational readiness of the fire station and equipment.
• Supervise the daily Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of emergency response equipment and life safety systems according to Vallen and customer standards.
• Ensure accurate logging of emergency vehicle equipment and maintain EMS supply inventories.
• Process requisitions for necessary materials and supplies.
• Complete Incident and Patient Reports as required.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
A High School diploma or GED is required; a Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred, or a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience along with 5 current certifications in fire protection or related fields. Relevant experience should include:
• Firefighter II certification (IFSAC/ProBoard or NFPA 1081 equivalent)
• Fire Officer II certification (IFSAC/ProBoard)
• Fire Inspector II certification (IFSAC/ProBoard)
• Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) certification is preferred
• Hazardous Materials Technician certification
• Training in Rope Rescue and Confined Space
• Proven ability to lead a team effectively.
• Strong customer service skills and the ability to manage multiple accounts.
• Advanced computer proficiency.
• Proficiency in reading, writing, and understanding English.
Working Conditions:
Travel may be required, up to 5% of the time.
Work Environment:
