Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team at Escambia County, FL. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and support to our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide general patient care and basic patient education to inmates in a correctional setting.
  • Take direction from the Nurse Manager and the Registered Nurse-In-Charge and follow medical orders from physicians and mid-level providers.
  • Participate in the screening, evaluation, and care of inmates in a variety of settings, including sick call, mental health care, chronic illness clinics, the infirmary, and confinement.
  • Provide treatment and medication administration as per physician and mid-level practitioner orders.
  • Perform specific nursing tasks, including vital signs, venipuncture, and IV therapy.
  • Provide appropriate nursing interventions in emergency situations.
  • Responsible for complete and accurate documentation of care provided in the inmate's health record.
  • Maintain health services records logs and assist with data entry within the scope of nursing-related items.
  • Maintain accountability of all controlled substances and prescription medications according to federal and state laws and organizational regulations.
  • Participate in the monitoring, requisition, and documentation of the use of medical supplies and equipment.
  • Provide supervision for non-licensed healthcare staff.
  • Participate in inmate educational health programs.
  • Coordinate with medical, dental, mental health, and ancillary personnel, as required, to ensure continuity of care.
  • Participate in continuing education and in-service training to maintain professional capabilities and proficiency.
  • Assist in the training and orientation of new employees.
Requirements
  • Certification in Florida as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.
  • State of Florida Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) License.
  • Must possess a Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification at the time of employment.
  • Security clearance.

  • Correctional nursing experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics (KSAOs)
  • Federal, state, correctional healthcare standards, institutional policies and regulations, and accreditation and certification requirements.
  • Clinical operations and procedures.
  • All facets of professional nursing, patient care, infection control, safety, quality assurance, and institutional practices.
  • Performing clinical nursing procedures.
  • Writing.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interpersonal relations with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc.
  • Prepare and process laboratory samples using established protocols.
  • Work effectively with a diverse community.
