Position Summary
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE
The Consumer Loan Officer is tasked with the critical role of evaluating, analyzing, and underwriting loan applications. This involves utilizing applicant information, credit histories, and established policy guidelines to make informed lending decisions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The responsibilities associated with this role include, but are not limited to:
- Collecting comprehensive background information on loan applicants through interviews and credit reports.
- Guiding members through the loan application process to ensure all necessary information is accurately provided.
- Assessing debt-to-income ratios and calculating the extent of outstanding secured and unsecured debts.
- Determining collateral requirements, evaluating the strength of collateral, and formulating repayment plans.
- Ensuring the accuracy of application details, loan amounts, and repayment terms, while facilitating the origination of approved loan requests.
- Making decisions to approve or deny consumer and real estate loan applications within the credit union's established parameters.
- Communicating reasons for loan denials and exploring alternative options for members.
- Promoting products and services to align with members' needs and to support the credit union's objectives.
- Implementing new loan products and system services as directed by management.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE CRITERIA
- Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with rotating Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- A minimum of a two-year degree in Business or a related field, or equivalent experience is required.
- Three to five years of experience in a financial institution, particularly in consumer lending, with increasing responsibilities.
- Technical knowledge of loan practices is essential.
- A general understanding of credit unions and their operations is advantageous.
- Must maintain good standing in the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry and possess a Mortgage Loan Originator License.
- Strong analytical skills are necessary for complex lending decisions.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills are required to convey both positive and negative lending outcomes to members.
- A solid grasp of National Credit Union Administration lending regulations and credit union lending policies is essential.
- Ability to effectively sell credit union products and services.
- Proactive approach to managing a high volume of incoming loan applications.
- Flexibility in decision-making is important.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills are required.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
- Physical ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
