Job Title: Loan Specialist

Job Summary:

This position is located in the Department of the Interior, Office of the Secretary, Assistant Secretary-Indian Affairs, Office of Indian Economic Development, Division of Capital Investment.

The Loan Specialist will consult, assist, and secure project financing by analyzing, preparing, and presenting analysis of loan applications. The ideal candidate will have experience in loan processing, credit analysis, loan underwriting, and customer service.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and prepare financial reports on the merits of credit applications, examining eligibilities and all credit factors.
  • Recommend approval or denial of loan applications received from lenders and borrowers.
  • Provide accurate supporting justification to address and mitigate terms and conditions suitable to protect the interest of DCI.
  • Consult and provide the DCI Chief with current, accurate, detailed, and substantive weekly activity reports.
  • Participate in discussions concerning policies developed or administered within the OIED that impact Indian economic development.
  • Communicate, explain, and promote statutes, regulations, OIED programs, policies, and objectives associated with the IFA.

Requirements:

GS-12: To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level performing ALL of the following:

  • Experience in loan processing;
  • Experience in credit analysis;
  • Loan underwriting;
  • Customer service;
  • Time management skills.

GS-13: To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level performing ALL of the following:

  • Experience as an expert of loan processing;
  • Experience as an expert of credit analysis;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of loan underwriting;
  • Excellent customer service;
  • Strong time management skills;
  • Experience with lending practices.

Former Federal Employees are required to indicate whether they received a Voluntary Separation Incentive Payment (VSIP) buyout in their previous employment with the Federal government, and are required to submit a copy of the applicable Notification of Personnel Action (SF-50) regarding the VSIP.

Most individuals who accept reemployment with the Federal government within 5 years of receiving the VSIP amount, must repay the gross amount of the separation pay prior to reemployment.
