Job Summary

The Education Coordinator provides professional expertise in Early Childhood Education, ensuring high-quality educational services and equitable access for all. This role focuses on management, administration, and oversight of educational programs, promoting social and emotional development, and educational progress.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and maintain compliance with Education Service Areas of the Head Start Program Performance Standards, Child Care Development Fund, and the State of Oregon Office of Child Care.
  • Ensure a safe environment for children, maintaining a culturally responsive environment and collaborating with the Culture Department to implement a culturally responsive curriculum.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor School Readiness Goals, supporting School readiness through effective parent and family engagement.
  • Conduct classroom observations using the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) tool and provide feedback to teachers.
  • Administer Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies Gold for Preschool classroom, providing training, technical support, and guidance on individualization, implementation, and overall planning of the adopted curriculum.
  • Support a coordinated approach for improving teacher-child interactions, inclusive practices, sensory integration, language-rich environments, and school readiness.
  • Gather, compile, analyze, and present yearly outcome data related to Education, using outcome data for long-term strategic planning and creating Program Improvement Plans.
  • Present Education data to Policy Council and staff, assisting with the development and monitoring of program goals.
  • Gather and submit information for the Program Information Report (PIR), assisting in the conduct and analysis of the Community Assessment.
  • Administer and monitor Child Plus Data Management for Education component, contributing to an environment of acceptance that supports and respects gender, culture, language, ethnicity, and family composition.
  • Ensure all teachers provide an atmosphere that promotes and reinforces social and emotional development and educational progress, ensuring all staff complete mandatory professional development coursework.
  • Act as Child Development Associates (CDA) advisor for participating staff, monitoring and supporting classrooms toward Conscious Discipline Fidelity.
  • Coordinate services provided onsite by a contracted Teacher Coach, supervising, guiding, and evaluating classroom staff, facilitating assigned staff committee(s).
  • Ensure proper documentation and confidentiality of child records, coordinating services provided by educational Specialists.
  • Abide by and be familiar with all Tribal and Preschool policies, reporting child abuse/neglect to proper authorities as required.
  • Coordinate with appropriate staff to provide staff with the information, guidance, and resources needed to help children and families meet their individualized goals and objectives, including their Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP).
  • Coordinate with appropriate staff to train teaching staff to modify the environment and activities to remove barriers for inclusion of children with disabilities in the full range of program activities.
  • Maintain current knowledge and skills necessary to comply with Head Start and Early Head Start regulations and requirements, participating in regular training programs and conferences at least 20 hours per year.
  • Perform a variety of other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervise the day-to-day activities of assigned employees, developing and coaching employees to meet their potential and fulfill their responsibilities.
  • Ensure the hiring, training, promoting, assigning, disciplining, and discharging of employees are in accordance with Tribal Law, including without limitation, the Tribal Employment Rights Ordinance (TERO).
  • Assure staff adherence to all policies and procedures, work, safety, and administrative rule, Tribal Law, and State Regulations.
  • Serve as a mentor, as requested, for Tribal career development, tracking attendance and approving timesheets.
Education, Experience, and Licenses
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or special education or related field and five (5) years of related work experience.
  • Two (2) years must include responsibility for a classroom and two (2) years must include supervisory/management experience. Experience with Head Start or Early Head Start preferred.
  • OR equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Driving Requirements
  • This position may require driving.
Qualifications, Registrations, and Certifications
  • Must be familiar with Conscious Discipline. Must be familiar with Conscious Discipline (preferred) and/or positive behavior intervention supports (PBIS).
  • Familiar with Head Start Early Learning Outcomes, Parent, Family, and Community Engagement Framework, and Head Start Program Performance Standards.
  • Requires ongoing registration in Oregon Registry Online (ORO) for tracking of professional development, credentials, and/or licensing requirements in the field of Early Childhood Care and Education.
  • Requires Teaching Strategies GOLD Interrater Reliability Certification, Preschool/Pre-K.
  • Requires knowledge of Head Start Practice-Based Coaching.
  • Requires CLASS Certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement learning experiences that advance the intellectual and physical development of children.
  • Must have a working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA).
  • Must have a working knowledge of Trauma-Informed Practices.
  • Maintains knowledge in Early Childhood Education.
  • Demonstrated ability to build appropriate, helping relationships with adult learners, preschool-aged children, and families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Recognizes, respects, and honors the cultural identities of others.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, and listening skills.
  • Must have the ability to work well with children and staff.
  • Must have a working knowledge of Head Start components.
  • Must have the ability to work at times with minimal supervision.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and record-keeping skills.
  • Must have the ability to respond courteously and tactfully to complaints and client requests, and to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be proficient with Child Plus database system.
  • Requires TB and Hep B vaccinations immunizations.
  • Requires working knowledge and proficiency in use of office equipment and computer software such as Microsoft products.
  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, business, and telephone etiquette.
  • First Aid/CPR certification is required within 90 days of hire.
  • Food handler's card is required within 30 days of hire.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to Native American culture is required.
Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements
  • Continually requires the ability to express or receive detailed information or important instructions through oral communication.
  • Continually requires working with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm. Requires repetitive movement of wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Often requires walking or moving about to accomplish tasks.
  • Requires standing and/or sitting for sustained periods of time, raising objects from a lower to a higher position and/or moving objects horizontally.
  • Continually requires color identification, close vision, far vision, and depth perception.
  • The worker is frequently subject to classroom noise.
  • Occasionally requires lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • Due to the nature of the interactions with other employees and the public we serve, employees may be required to provide documentation of, or receive, certain health vaccinations.
  • This position is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions which provide protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes, and is occasionally subject to outside environmental conditions.
  • May be called upon to serve as a Disaster Reservist during emergencies.
  • Local travel is occasionally required. Travel outside of the state is infrequently required.
