Job Title: Technical Director Assistant

Colgate University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Director Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for assisting the Technical Director with all aspects of University Theatre production operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the Technical Director with the execution of technical and logistical requirements for all Department of Theater productions.
  • Assist in the organization and delivery of laboratory sessions for THEA 250: Stagecraft, a required course for all theater majors.
  • Supervise and instruct student workers and students in THEA 250 in the use of all workshop hand and power tools.
  • Lead student labor in the construction and installation of scenery.
  • Serve as the Lighting Supervisor for all Department of Theater productions.
  • Serve as the Sound Engineer for all Department of Theater productions.
  • Research and collaborate with the Technical Director to prepare budgetary and labor requests for scenery, properties, lighting, sound, and infrastructure needs.
  • Stay current with new developments in theater technology and relevant regulations.
  • Maintain all property, tool, shop, audio-visual, lighting instruments, and other equipment inventory for the Department of Theater.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Theater or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Knowledge of technical direction in a professional setting.
  • Experience working with students and staff of varying skill sets.
  • Engaged, dynamic collaborator with faculty and students.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master of Fine Arts degree in Theater Technology/Design.
Work Schedule:

Weekdays, with occasional nights and weekends. 40 hours/week for 11 months; July 1 – May 31 (month of June off).
