A significant portion of our clientele consists of immigrants and refugees, with over 85% of families living in poverty, highlighting the pressing challenges faced by approximately 1.7 million New Yorkers today.

CAMBA's The Kensington Family Shelter is a facility funded by the New York City Department of Homeless Services, designed to provide families with a supportive, structured, therapeutic, safe, and drug-free environment. We offer comprehensive case management services to 64 families participating in a transitional residence program for homeless families. The facility features multiple floors with various room sizes, common areas, on-site security, and social services.

Position Overview: Vehicle Operator and Facility Maintenance Specialist

Reporting To: Assistant Program Manager

Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify and document maintenance issues using a work order form.
  • Ensure timely completion of work orders to meet quality standards.
  • Report any maintenance equipment issues immediately.
  • Adhere to all maintenance regulatory requirements consistently.
  • Follow appropriate safety protocols, including wearing safety gear and displaying safety signs during tasks.
  • Prepare for and respond to adverse weather conditions.
  • Assist clients in reaching appointments.
  • Conduct daily pre-trip vehicle inspections before the first trip.
  • Report any vehicle or equipment malfunctions promptly.
  • Maintain a travel log for all vehicle trips.
  • Provide assistance to passengers entering and exiting the vehicle.
  • Keep the vehicle clean and free of debris at all times.
  • Perform cleaning tasks for rugs, carpets, and upholstered furniture.
  • Sanitize bathrooms and replace supplies as needed.
  • Handle light maintenance tasks such as replacing bulbs and fixtures.
  • Dust and clean furniture and equipment.
  • Manage waste disposal and recycling efforts.
  • Ensure proper drainage by cleaning storm drains and gutters.
  • Polish metal fixtures as required.
  • Wash walls, ceilings, and windows as necessary.
  • Paint and plaster building interiors as needed.
  • Address graffiti removal and replace damaged tiles.
Qualifications:
  • Education and technical expertise sufficient to understand and execute written and verbal instructions.
Additional Requirements:
  • Valid New York State Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  • Completion of NYS Approved Defensive Driving Classes every three years.
  • Participation in a Refresher Computerized Defensive Driver class.
  • Maintain insurability based on CAMBA's point system throughout employment.
  • For those driving a 15-passenger van, passing scores on required tests are necessary.
  • Review and acknowledgment of CAMBA's Transportation Policy.
  • Potential certification in First Aid/CPR and overdose prevention may be required.
  • Bilingual candidates are preferred.
  • Completion of NYC DOH/MH attestation regarding child abuse reports.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Compensation: $16.00 Hourly
Status: Full-time (35 hours per week)
