Job Summary

The Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District is seeking a qualified Crossing Guard to ensure the safe passage of students at designated street intersections. This is a part-time position that requires the ability to work independently and make sound judgments in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct the actions of children and traffic at designated street intersections to ensure safe crossing.
• Record license numbers of vehicles disregarding traffic signals and report them to police officers.
• Escort children across the street.
• Keep order to prevent disturbances at street intersections.
• Report irregularities and hazards to appropriate personnel.
• Stop speeding vehicles and warn drivers.
• Answer questions and give direction on request.

Requirements

• Must be capable on a continuous basis of standing/walking, reaching, grasping, handling, gripping, and utilizing repetitive movements of both hands.
• Must be capable on a frequent basis of bending/stooping, squatting/crouching, kneeling, pushing (up to 10 pounds force from floor to waist level and over head while lying down), pulling (up to 10 pounds from floor to waist level and over head while lying down), lifting (11 to 20 pounds from floor to waist).
• Must be capable on an occasional basis of climbing, crawling, lifting.
• Must also be capable of talking, seeing with both near and far visual acuity, depth perception, and field of vision; hearing and feeling.

Qualifications

• Some experience in directing vehicular and pedestrian traffic and completion of a standard high school course, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Some knowledge of the geography of the city.
• Ability to maintain discipline.
• Ability to recognize traffic hazards.
• Ability to utilize good judgment and maintain a good working relationship with staff, students, and public.
• Ability to withstand adverse weather conditions.
