Job Summary

The Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Crossing Guard to ensure the safe passage of students across designated street intersections. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for directing vehicular and pedestrian traffic, maintaining order, and reporting any irregularities or hazards to the appropriate personnel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the actions of children and traffic at designated street intersections to ensure safe crossing.
  • Record license numbers of vehicles disregarding traffic signals and report them to police officers.
  • Escort children across the street.
  • Keep order to prevent disturbances at street intersections.
  • Report irregularities and hazards to appropriate personnel.
  • Stop speeding vehicles and warn drivers.
  • Answer questions and give direction on request.

Requirements

  • Some experience in directing vehicular and pedestrian traffic and completion of a standard high school course, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Some knowledge of the geography of the city.
  • Ability to maintain discipline.
  • Ability to recognize traffic hazards.
  • Ability to utilize good judgment and maintain a good working relationship with staff, students and public.
  • Ability to withstand adverse weather conditions.
