Position Overview:
The Kitchen Manager oversees all kitchen personnel and food production at Cafe 13. This role encompasses managing food purchasing specifications and adhering to standardized recipes. The Kitchen Manager is also tasked with upholding the highest standards of food quality and hygiene throughout the establishment. This is a salaried position requiring full-time commitment, with expectations of up to 50 hours per week, including availability on weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise all kitchen staff, including line cooks, prep cooks, and dishwashers.
  • Conduct interviews and hire kitchen personnel, including line and prep cooks, bakers, and dishwashers.
  • Provide guidance, counseling, and disciplinary actions for kitchen staff; coordinate work schedules to ensure efficient food preparation within budgeted labor costs.
  • Train all kitchen employees, including line cooks, prep cooks, and dishwashers.
  • Prepare weekly kitchen schedules using Homebase, planned two weeks in advance.
  • Conduct monthly performance reviews with each kitchen employee.
  • Kitchen Management:
  • Maintain essential documents such as:
    • Order Guide
    • Prep List
    • Recipe Book
    • Maintenance Schedule
    • Inventory Records
  • Order kitchen ingredients and supplies 2-4 times weekly.
  • Receive deliveries and verify accuracy.
  • Train staff to manage inventory and place orders on days off as needed.
  • Identify opportunities to minimize waste, reduce costs, and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Develop new menu items and recipes.
  • Ensure the quality and accuracy of all food served.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and model Cafe 13's values to guests and staff.
  • Kitchen Cleanliness and Maintenance:
  • Ensure compliance with hygiene, professionalism, cleanliness, and safety standards as per health regulations; establish a regular cleaning and maintenance schedule for all kitchen areas and equipment.
  • Confirm that all kitchen equipment is operational and schedule regular maintenance.
  • Submit purchase requests for equipment and supplies exceeding $300 in quantity to the General Manager.
  • Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as Homebase, Inventory Systems, Excel, and ordering platforms.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Current ServSafe Certification is mandatory.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with arms, and bend or crouch.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Understand the kitchen environment presents risks such as slippery floors and sharp tools; all safety precautions must be observed.


Job Type: Full-time



Compensation: $55,000 - $70,000 annually
