Job Summary:

The Reserve Deputy Sheriff-Lateral position is a volunteer opportunity that requires a strong commitment to serving and protecting the community. As a Reserve Deputy, you will be responsible for performing various law enforcement duties, including patrolling designated areas, responding to emergency situations, and interacting with the public. You will also have the opportunity to work in specialized units, such as corrections or court facilities, and participate in community-based policing initiatives.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform law enforcement duties, including patrolling, responding to emergency situations, and interacting with the public.
  • Work in specialized units, such as corrections or court facilities.
  • Participate in community-based policing initiatives.
  • Perform administrative tasks, such as writing reports and maintaining logs.
Requirements:
  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Have a valid California class "C" driver license.
  • Meet the selection requirements for the position.
Selection Requirements:
  • Option I: A current reserve peace officer with at least two years of continuous peace officer experience in a California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certified law enforcement agency and have a current and valid California P.O.S.T. certificate at the time of application.
  • Option II: A current full-time peace officer with at least two years of continuous peace officer experience in a California P.O.S.T. certified law enforcement agency and have a current and valid California P.O.S.T. certificate at the time of application.
  • Option III: A former peace officer with at least two years of continuous peace officer experience in a California P.O.S.T. certified law enforcement agency and have a current and valid California P.O.S.T. certificate (not previously expired) at the time of application.
  • Option IV: Successfully completed the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Reserve academy within the last three years and have a current and valid California P.O.S.T. certificate at the time of application.
