About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled MBS Trader II to join our team at Rocket Mortgage. As a key member of our trading team, you will be responsible for tracking market conditions to buy and sell mortgage-backed securities, creating models and reports of trends, and developing and maintaining relationships with buyers.

Responsibilities
  • Leverage loan and trade data in our risk management system to develop a daily hedge strategy.
  • Implement the optimal hedge strategy to eliminate rate risk and maximize trade execution.
  • Monitor and maintain market data used for risk management decisions, best-execution, and market-to-market evaluation.
  • Assess hedging strategy effectiveness through data and metrics, recommending changes to strategy as needed.
  • Execute buy and sell of mortgage-backed securities forward contracts.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with new and existing broker/dealer counterparties.
  • Design and implement process improvements to existing tools and workflows.
  • Monitor markets and provide insight to internal teams and leadership on impact to the organization market.
  • Identify and correct operational issues with trades, loans, and/or market data within the risk management platform.
  • Lead projects to drive process improvement and effectiveness to the risk management platform and/or trading strategies.
  • Mentor junior team members.
Requirements
  • 2 years of experience trading mortgage-backed securities (MBS).
  • Experience in the mortgage industry.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Marketing, Computer Science, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including but not limited to, ability to utilize formulas, pivot tables, graphs, and charts.
  • Proficiency with database querying via SQL or other experience with programming languages.
